My Favorite Business Movie Clips
By selfemployedblog | April 11, 2007
I have my share of favorite films but when it comes to films related to business, the following movies are my all time faves. Particular for the speeches which are given in specific scenes. If you look up searches about the best business movies, you’ll be sure to find all three below on every list, and if not, they should be! I am including YouTube links to each clip as well (warning: there is a lot of profanity in some scenes.)
Glengarry GlenRoss
Alec Baldwin’s speech in Glengarry GlenRoss is a classic. In fact, I think it ranks as my favorite business movie speech of all time. His performance is phenomenal and the best I’ve ever seen as far as his movie career goes. Although it is Hollywood and I doubt real sales people are given pep talks like this in real life, it is still a great speech that makes you want to get off the couch and get to work. “If you’re drowning and I throw you a life vest, would you grab it? YES! Good! Pick up 200 shares, I won’t let you down.” Ben Affleck has a couple of good, short speeches in Boiler Room. My favorite one is the one he delivers after the group of junior brokers aren’t making enough sales. He pretty much slams them but he gets right to the point. View it on YouTube.

The “Greed is Good” speech delivered by Michael Douglas who portrays the character Gordon Gekko in Wall Street is another classic speech. I had to watch this very speech in an accounting class I took back in college. I love Wall Street. It remains one of my all time favorite business releated films. View it on YouTube.

This isn’t a speech, but the scene in Jerry Maguire when Tom Cruise’s character begins to type up his mission statement is inspiring when you think of your business as providing a service. He stops to ask himself what is really important and that is building relationships with his clients. This one lands more on the soft side of business but it reminds us that it doesn’t always have to be so cut throat. View it on YouTube.
