SCORE Counselors
By selfemployedblog | March 13, 2006
A long time ago I was interested in learning what it would take to open a small juice bar in my area. Seeing as I had no idea how to start, I decided to seek help from Score.org. First I emailed a counselor and received a quick response. The counselor suggested I set up a meeting with a local SCORE counselor. These meetings are free and held on certain days of the week. The meeting was set-up at the chamber of commerce and I was sure to be on time as these counselors are volunteers and the service is totally free.
The counselor I met with took the time to review the business plan I had written and gave me advice on the things I needed to improve. He also suggested workshops that I could take and told me the things I would need to have before attempting to apply for a small business loan. Needless to say, the whole juice bar thing didn’t pan out, but the SCORE counseling was great. I would recommend their free service to anyone needing guidance to operating their small business.
Some counselors will even visit you at your business location to offer advice. Browse the web site and email a counselor. The success stories are inspiring and prove that getting some help in the beginning can take your business a long way and save you a few headaches.
