Web Based Organization

By selfemployedblog | May 17, 2006

One of the challenges of being self-employed is staying organized. Unless you can afford a personal assistant, you are the only one who maintains organization in your business. Since my business revolves around the internet, I use a lot of free web based applications that help me to stay on top of things. A few of my favorites are listed below:

Backpack - This is a great, all in one, web based organizer for personal and small business use. There are a ton of features including the basics like creating lists and notes. I use it a lot to create to-do lists ordered by priority. I also love their “writeboard” and use it a lot to write blog posts that I can easily go back to and edit.

Google Calendar -  I’ve just begun using this and so far it’s great. I keep track of meetings that I need to attend and any special events. I could just as easily use my calendar app on my computer, but I like web based tools because you can access them from anywhere.

Google Mail -  I have several email addresses and I don’t like clogging up my inbox with stuff I want to read in my free time like several newsletters I subscribe to. I use my Gmail account to subscribe to any newsletters I find interesting and can log in and read them at my leisure and archive any important ones. You get more than enough space with Google so losing any mail is not an issue.

Those are three web based apps I use on an almost daily basis.  They make my organizing a lot easier and being web based, I can access them from any internet enabled computer. If you have any web based applications you can’t do without, feel free to leave them in the comments.
